Hi, I’m Chef Russ!

My Chef journey started with a dare “what would you do if money wasn’t an issue? What vocation would you choose?!” These were dares/deep questions from my best friend some 15 years ago. 

A week later, I resigned from my job as an actuarial intern and started my professional cooking journey! I went to ITHQ professional cooking school in Montreal. I worked in fine dining restaurants, at family restaurants and yoga retreats. I worked for a French Chef, with a circus performer/cook, and with an intimidating former inmate turned cook! Ah, the adventure of professional cooking! I lived and worked in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and rural BC! I worked at a music festival and met famous musicians. I received grants to teach classes to parents of young children and children. I made soup and pizza for an annual Trail running race. 

I am currently Chef de Partie at UBC gallery pub and Chef/Owner ChefRuss.ca. I’m dedicated to teaching parents how to cook, connect more deeply and transfer life skills to their young children. Welcome!
